Thank you to everyone who participated and showed support for the Green is GOing Commuter Challenge! You pushed the pedal to the metal on your bike, broke out those old sneakers to walk, hitched a ride with a friend or colleague, or jumped onto the bus and Tri-Rail to get to campus. We thank you for making our campus a little greener and our carbon footprint a little smaller – little by little, we all add up to a lot!
One lucky participant, Heather Bauer, has won $100 in FREE GAS, as a reward for making a commitment to save gas by bicycling to campus! Here’s what Heather had to say about her commuting experience:
“My experience riding my bike to work was life changing and fantastic. I have always been an advocate of bike riding and saving money on gas, however I have not used my pedaling legs to their full potential in years. As I rode, I realized how much I had missed out on. The sky, the trees, the smells, the air, the sounds, it was all surreal...minus the angry drivers of course :) It felt fantastic! I have made it a point now to continue my bike riding to work at least 3 days per week. I've discovered it saves me approximately $30 on gas per week, totaling $120 per month. This much needed money is definitely going to help me with Christmas this year. I will be spending the extra money on presents and fun that I would not have been able to do previously. Thank you, Green is GOing, for making me realize what is most important, especially at this time of year....Living life to the fullest...and family.”
Be on the lookout for future Green is GOing games and challenges. And keep that Green is GOing button on to show your support!! If you don’t yet have a button, you could pick one up at the Human Resources Department.
